Presenter

Arend de Waal

Arend earned his BCom from the University of the Free State and completed his articles at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in 2000, where he showcased his prowess in software by becoming a Pastel Certified Professional. He worked in the finance department of Murray & Roberts and served as an Accountant for 8 years. Together with 3 other directors, he founded SmartPractice, a comprehensive accounting practice management system designed initially for in-house use.

Arend’s unique blend of accounting background and IT affinity allows him to bridge the gap between accountants’ needs and the software solutions provided by developers. As the Executive Director overseeing operations at SmartPractice, he engages with potential clients, demonstrating how the software can meet their needs. Arend is deeply involved in business development, specializes in business enhancement tools and cloud accounting, and actively seeks feedback from practising Accountants to pinpoint areas for growth and improvement.
