ISSB: increasing international support for the sustainability standards

18 October 2022

The ISSB is currently considering the feedback received to its consultations on its first two proposed IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards, one setting out general sustainability-related disclosure requirements and one setting out specific climate-related disclosure requirements.

The G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors met in Washington, DC on 12–13 October 2022 and have published a summary of discussions which you can access here.

Members noted the need for globally consistent data to effectively address climate risk and welcomed the efforts of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) to achieve an interoperable global baseline.

Similarly G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors have also issued a statement following their meeting on 12 October, airing support and commitment to move towards mandatory climate-related financial disclosures. They welcomed the ISSB’s efforts to develop a truly global baseline of sustainability disclosures to inform investment decisions. You can read the G7 summary discussion paper here.
