Draft Mine Health and Safety Amendment Bill published

On 15 June 2022, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) published the Draft Mine Health and Safety Amendment Bill. All interested and affected parties are encouraged to comment on the anticipated changes by 29 July 2022.

The draft Bill proposes that an employer or company may be held criminally liable for contravening any sections of the Act with possible sentences from fines to imprisonment.

There are also proposed more streamlined administrative processes for employers including conducting investigations, regular inspections and formulating training programs. Read more here
