Customs Tariff Amendment Notices Gazetted in September 2023

During September 2023, the following customs tariff amendments were Gazetted:  

Schedule 1 was amended to:

• Increase the general rate of customs duty on stainless steel flat products from 5% to 10%, Refer to Notice R.3916.
• Increase the rate of customs duty on certain drilling or earth boring tools, including certain parts thereof, from free of duty and 15%, respectively to 20%. Refer to Notice R.3909.

Schedule 3 was amended relating to certain existing rebate items and the creation of rebate provisions on woven fabrics and other fabrics classifiable under certain tariff subheadings. Refer to Notice R.3917.

Schedule No. 4 was amended to:

• Include a temporary rebate facility for the importation of white chocolate, in immediate packaging of a content of 25 kg or more, for use in the manufacture of chocolate containing cocoa, in blocks, slabs or bars and other chocolate. Refer to Notice R.3918.
• Increase the annual quota for frozen bone-in cuts of the species Gallus Domesticus (commonly known as chicken) originating in or imported from the USA from 71 632 tonnes to 71 963 tonnes. Refer to Notice R.3908.
• Create a rebate provision for importing steel cord of a kind used in manufacturing steel cord-reinforced conveyor belting. Refer to Notice R.3906.

Schedule No. 5 was amended to:

• Provide for specific drawbacks and refunds of customs duties paid on imported fuel levy goods upon the subsequent export or removal thereof to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN). Refer to Notice R.3907.
• Provide for specific drawbacks and refunds of customs duties paid on imported fuel levy goods upon the subsequent export or removal to Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN). Refer to Notice R.3903.
• Substitute Note 5 in order to make reference to new rule 75.26 that provides for the electronic submission of drawbacks and refunds. Refer to Notice R.3885.
