Comment deadline for the draft determination is extended to 28 February 2023 relating to community health workers wages and conditions investigation. Basic conditions of employment is aiming to establish a sectoral determination prescribing minimum wages and conditions of employment.

An employer is defined as any government department, implementing agency, private employer or contractor that hires workers to work in a Community Health Worker Programme (CHWP).

The regulation requires that employers adhere to the following when employing workers in CHWP:

  • Register workers with the Department of Health as Community Health Workers
  • Provide training as necessary and that training must be recorded in the employment records
  • Adhere to sector specific minimum conditions of employment including minimum rates of remunerations
  • Prohibit or regulate task-based work, piecework, home and contract work
  • Adhere to minimum standards for housing and sanitation for employees who reside on their employer’s premises
  • Regulate payment of travelling and other work-related allowances.
